How To Plan The Ultimate Spa Day

Let's all just admit it. Spa days, or self-care days as I like to call them, are really the best time of the year. Yet, most of us just dismiss these days as "unproductive." We thrust ourselves into another stressful work assignment, failing to see the true value of self-care days. They are a great way to detox both the mind and the body. Here are my tips and tricks for having the ultimate spa day.

Start by sleeping in.

Now I'm not saying you should stay in your bed until noon, but hey, if that's what your body wants then go for it. Today is your day to turn off all the alarm clocks and just wake up when your body wakes you. It's a great way to wake up feeling refreshed, energized and ready for the day.

Stay off social media.

Today is YOUR day. Don't spend it looking through photos of your ex's friend's mom's trip to Belize. Ditch social media in the dust for today and take the time to focus on you.

Take some extra time for your skin.

Now, all of us should already have a fully established face routine, but this is the time to be fancy with it. You can exfoliate or do a relaxing face mask.

Eat healthy meals.

Again, this is a self-care day. And one of the greatest ways to care for yourself is to eat healthy food. Swap the sugar for fruits and try not to eat very processed foods.

Have a cup of tea.

Waking up to a steaming cup of tea has numerous benefits that many of us haven't even heard about. Tea contains antioxidants, helps with weight loss and may even help battle cancer. Tea is a delicious -- and healthy -- alternative to coffee.

Light a scented candle.

Candles always make me feel as if I am at a professional spa instead of just at home with my dogs. They are fun to have around and are a great source of aromatherapy.

Do some reading.

Yes, I know I'm a nerd, but I love to read. Reading is a great way to exercise the brain, yet most of us don't get around to reading because of all sort of reasons. We are "too busy" or we "have other things to do." Today, I challenge you to pick up that book you have always wanted to read and just start reading!

Watch some of your favorite movies.

Okay, I'll confess. As much as I love being on my feet and being productive 24/7, I have soft spot for cuddling up in a blanket and watching old movies. My favorite thing to do on movie day is to revisit movies from my childhood. Surprisingly, these kiddy movies always have a way of making me crack up just as much as I did 10 years ago.

Color outside.

Coloring is a great way to calm yourself down and the extra dose of fresh air should be enough to make you smile. If you are like me and are not so artistically inclined, you can print out adult coloring sheets from online.

Take a soothing bath. (with a bath bomb)

Taking baths are a great way to release any pent-up stress that you have acquired over the week. It relieves muscle pain and the bath bombs make your bathroom smell like a candle shop.

Using my favorite techniques listed above, I hope you can have the perfect self-care day to "reset" for the rest of the week. Tweet me your favorite activity and subscribe to my newsletter for important updates.
